CCNA Certification Training Options

As a potential CCNA, you have two options for your certification. You can choose to get it all done in a single test that covers the entire CCNA certification, which is referred to as the CCNA (640-802) or you can tackle the material into two tests, referred to as the Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices ICND1 (640-822) and the ICND2 (640-816) Which path should you take for your CCNA certification? Ultimately, that depends on where you are in your career. Those of you who are just out of high school, or those who consider themselves lacking a little in the computer proficiency department, could probably do well with splitting the certification into two tests. That way, you can cut all this material you’re about to learn into two smaller chunks. You can take ICND1 (640-822) , which is really just networking basics, and then spend up to the next three years studying for ICND 2 (640-816), if you so desire. Also, for those of you who aren’t quite as advanced in their computer career, this direction might be a little easier on the checkbook. In recognition of its value in the industry, comparatively speaking, CCNA is not cheap Also, and this is pretty new to the CCNA, you can specialize in one of three specific aspects of Cisco administration: wireless, voice over I-P and security. You’re not getting an excessive amount of new information, and most of what you’re learning in the regular CCNA exam is in the CCNA specializations; it’s just that with the specializations you’re getting a higher concentration of questions in your chosen subject area. CCNA Certifications

CCNA Exam 640-802: Cisco Certified Network Associate

This CCNA Exam 640-802 is the most popular route to earning the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification. It is an entry-level, single option exam for IT professionals who have a basic understanding of computers and networking technology. The CCNA is considered to be the most universally rewarding certification produced in the IT industry. Individuals who possess a CCNA usually carry job titles such as Network Engineer or Network Architect.

Within these domains, Cisco will ask complex questions dealing with extending switched networks with VLANS, IP Routes, IP traffic Access Lists, Point-to-Point (PPP) connections and the establishment of Frame Relay Connections. Additionally, the exam will concentrate on difficult questions involving TCP/IP protocol and its implementation in a network. Cisco does not publish the pass score for this exam, but the community commonly accepts that the passing score is 849 out of 1000. The exam contains somewhere between 55 and 65 questions that include multiple choice, drag and drop and simulation style questions in varying numbers.

The Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) exam is an entry-level certification designed for network administrators and engineers. It can be taken in one of two forms. First, the CCNA can be taken in one, single exam - The CCNA Composite 640-802. Second, it can be taken as a two part exam designated Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices 1 and 2 (ICND1 and ICND2).

A majority of the professional networking world consider the CCNA to be the de facto Network Engineering exam that qualifies a user to operate a small to medium business network. Furthermore, the CCNA opens doors for new exams, such as the CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) and CCDP (Cisco Certified Design Professional) certifications. Therefore, the exam is not in any way easy.

Overall, the CCNA has several subjects that it covers in detail, but the primary subjects of concern are Routing and Switching, including but not limited to the use of: IP, IGRP, Serial, Frame Relay, IP RIP, VLANs, RIP, Ethernet, and access lists. After attaining the CCNA, the exam is valid for three years before it must be recertified.
